Overview

Thanks for your interest in becoming a Core Team member of DSC McMaster U! But first - what is the Core Team? The Core Team is DSC's terminology for an executive team of the club. The Core Team consists of team leads (= executive members) that manage and lead a team within DSC McMaster U. As a Core Team member, you will also get the chance to (virtually) meet and collaborate with other Core Team members in DSC chapters around North America.

What's in it for you?

As a Core Team member of DSC McMaster U, you will be invited to the Slack workspace for all DSC Core Team members across North America. This is a great place to network with other leaders in the greater tech community and get mentorship from DSC alumni.

Since you will be leading an entire team of our club, you will gain lots of soft skills that are transferable to any roles you take in the future, including future jobs. In job interviews you will have concrete examples of the impact you made in our club, how effectively you led a group of students to achieve a common goal, and in general the interpersonal and leadership skills you learned through this role.

In addition, as a Team Lead, you will make important decisions about the direction you want the team to go to, set goals for the team and bring in your own unique talents, ideas and skills to ultimately make an impact on our community. This is a great opportunity for you to demonstrate your leadership skills, gain valuable experience, and network with lots of bright students and professionals in the tech field.

Responsibilities

As a Core Team member, you will be a (co-)lead for a team in DSC McMaster U. This means that you will manage a group of students in your team, provide guidance for your team to succeed, set goals for your team, ensure that your team executes tasks that work towards these goals, and in general lead the direction and growth of your team.

Have specific ideas about what kind of events you want to host, how you want to brand our club, etc? You can do so as a Team Lead! You will make a significant impact on our club.

Specific responsibilities for each Core Team member vary depending on the position.

Application Timeline

<aside> ℹ️ The application deadline for General members is September 26, 2021. However, we will be accepting new general members throughout the year. We still highly encourage you to apply by September 26 so that we could assign members to teams and then Team Leads can begin assigning tasks to members.
